From 1950 to 1970, Don Porfirio Chagoya Herna?ndez focused the distribution of his authentic mezcal in the region of the Istmo of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. It was there that he was captured by the natural beauty that characterized the native women from the region, La Tehuana, inspiring him to devout this name to his mezcal as a representation of the extravagant dresses worn by these Zapotec women. Mezcal Tehuana is symbolized by the lace ruffles, silky velvet fabric, and detailed flowers embroidered with colorful threads of this stunning Oaxacan dress. For Don Porfirio, “La Tehuana” came to be an ideal, like a muse accompanying him in the search of an indigenous origin, from its roots to its specific place in the world.
